The Blind Side
The blind side based on the true story of Leigh Anne and Sean Tuohy who take in a homeless teenage African-American, Michael Oher "Big Mike". Seventeen year old Michael Oher, an extremely large, physically imposing black youth, grew up in the projects in Memphis. He no longer lives with his drug addicted mother, but is in foster care when he isn't running away to sleep wherever else he can find. Michael has had little formal education and few skills to help him learn. It is only when he runs into a rich woman Leigh Anne who soon takes charge, as is her nature, ensuring that the young man has every opportunity to succeed and have all the opertunities that other kids would. When he shows an interest in football, she goes all out to help him, including giving the coach a few ideas on how best to use Michael's skills. his dream she not only provides him with a loving home, but also hires him a tutor to help him improve his grades to the point where he would qualify for an NCAA Division I athletic scholarship allowing him to achive his dream. Michael Oher was the first-round pick of the Baltimore Ravens in the 2009 NFL draft and fufilled his dream.
Techniques used in book
There are many techniques used in the film The Blind Side- these techniques include camera angles and music.
Camera angles- There are a wide range of camera angles used to communicate to the viewer and help them to interpret the different situations differently.
A juxtaposition of close- ups, long shots, mid shots andfull shots
depict the surroundings of Michaels rough neighbourhood. These shot let the
audience familiarise and get a feel of Michael‟s violent world.
Music- The use of different music at different times help to set the overall mood and fell of that sceen allowing the viewer to feel the emotions that are being depicted in that sceen wether it is a happy sceen or sad sceen.
This text/media is related to the topic of challenges as it depicts the life of a homeless 'black' person which has to undergo many challeges to live and succeed in life. this is as there were close to no opurtonities for him as he was homeless, had little to no education and was unhealthy and had no dreams. he then takes on these challeges to end up having a very successfull life with a great educatio and dream with the help with a loving woman and her family which take him in as one of their own. Throught the movie you see different challenges faced by people like him and how they are forced to suffer and make bad descicins like taking drugs and getting into fights. this movie also explores how it is good to go through tought times or challenges with the help of someone else.
